Mass Storage Removal

To replace a mass storage device, shut down the system, remove power, remove the system cover, refer to the figure and perform the procedures for:
Front-accessible drives
Internal drives

Front-Accessible Drive Replacement

  1. Remove the front bezel:
A.Push the two tabs at the top toward the center.
B.Gently pull the top of the bezel approximately 1-inch away from the chassis.
C.Pull up on the bezel to unhook the bottom mounts.
  2. Disconnect the power and data cables from the drive.
  3. Refer to the figure and remove the two mounting screws (4).
  4. Slide the drive (1) out of the bay.
  5. Take off the side rail (2) by removing the two screws (3).
  6. Install the side rail on the replacement drive. If you are putting a 3.5-inch drive into one of the 5.25-inch bays, attach expansion brackets to the drive.
  7. Refer to the drive's documentation and set the drive jumpers/switches (drive 0 or drive 1 for IDE drives, SCSI ID for SCSI drives).
  8. Reverse the steps above to complete the drive replacement.

Internal Drive Replacement

  1. Refer to the figure and remove the two screws (1) from the internal bay cage (2).
  2. Carefully swing the cage outward and lift it out of the chassis. Take care not to damage the attached cables.
  3. Disconnect the power and data cables from the drive.
  4. Refer to the figure and remove the four mounting screws.
  5. Slide the drive out of the bay cage.
  6. Refer to the drive's documentation and set the drive jumpers/switches (drive 0 or drive 1 for IDE drives, SCSI ID for SCSI drives).
  7. Reverse the steps above to complete the drive replacement.
